Costello – Illosophical

Posted in Irish Hip Hop Downloads, Irish Hip Hop Videos with tags , , , , , , , on July 11, 2012 by craicmusic

Brace yourselves, Illosophical is the debut album from Street Literature member Costello and half-way through 2012 it’s safe to say this is one of the highlights of the year.

A recent interview with Dublin-based music show Community Of Independents serves as a good introduction for new listeners

Fans of DFI Battle League will remember his clashes with Siyo, Desay and Genesis; however on Illosophical the battle mentality is gone instead we have a introspective, thought provoking LP, kept fresh with tracks like ‘Do The Best I Can‘ and ‘Love Affair‘.

The G.I production is sublime, and the beat choices complement the overall project perfectly. ‘Young Apprentice‘ and ‘The Devil’s A Liar‘ almost sound smokey while the drums keep it so raw. There isn’t a bad feature on here, ‘Let Me Blaze It f/ Willa Lee‘, ‘Analysis f/ Lethal Dialect‘ and ‘Played Out f/ 4Real & Jambo‘  demonstrate the scarily strong team of rhymers over at Working Class Records.

Illosophical has been available to stream since 15th March but now you are able to purchase it for €8 (click here)

Lethal Dialect LD50 I/II (Download)

Posted in Irish Hip Hop Downloads with tags , , , , , , , , , , , on June 19, 2012 by craicmusic

The first two installments of the three part series are now available for free download. This is in preparation for LD50 Magnum Opus which is on the way to being completed and released this summer.

There’s very little I can write about the albums without sounding like a deluded hyped up fan spouting endless praise. Seriously, I can’t stress enough how important these albums are for your collection.
LD50 I & II issued in a new era of hip hop from Ireland; they are one of the reasons Craic Music continues to exist.

There isn’t a bad song across LD50’s 10 tracks or LD50 Pt II’s 11. It’s succinct, self-aware and crafted to near-perfection. Discussing tracks would feel like giving movie-spoilers away, and the replay value here will have you listening until the mp3’s are scratched & warped.

LD50 Tracklist
1. The Beginning
2. Metamorphose
3. Cold And Calculated
4. The National
5. Show You How feat. Tommy Hand
6. They Set You Up (Interlude)
7. Cold Case
8. The International
9. Do You Believe
10. Far From The End

(Download here)

LD50 Part 2 Tracklist
1.  The Sermon
2. Outstr8 feat. G.I
3. Dark Horse
4. The Four Comandantes feat. Mouse & Costello
5. Keep It Real
6. Make My Route feat. Tommy Hand
7. Apparitions feat. Costello & Jambo
8. The Bet (Skit)
9. Black Magic
10. Snakes & Reptiles
11. Get To My Dreams feat. Willa Lee

(Download here)

Magnum Opus will have features from RiRa & Cyrus Malachi; expect production from G.I, Ghost, Danny Diggs, The Expert and 7th Dan. Lethal Dialect is apparently going to contribute to the production as well which should be exciting.

Street Literature – Products Of The Environment

Posted in Irish Hip Hop Downloads with tags , , , , , , , , on September 7, 2011 by craicmusic

It’s a jungle out there… a jungle that hip hop appears to be thriving in.

A pack of 4 Dublin emcee’s collectively known as Street Literature are predators in their area. With a ferocious group dynamic and voices hungry to be heard.

Products Of The Environment‘ is their first cohesive release from the group and includes verses/production from the late, great Lunitic. When listening to this, I get the feeling there’s a lot of history wrapped up in the recording and thankfully it translates to some of the most authentic, inspiring, passionate hip hop the country will ever produce.

Released in July and I’m still playing catch up with write-ups, but it’s given me more time to get a proper feel for the record and understand it better.

The split production duties between Lunitic, G.I., DJ Moschops, John Doe and Teknikal offers some variety for listeners. John Doe has some strong beats that compliment Street Literature’s attitude & style. “Wildlife” flips an eastern influenced sample into a frantic, populated flurry of verses and “Collateral Damage” wouldn’t sound out-of-place on a Terawrizt project alongside Tony Mahoney instrumentals. While Lunitic’s beats are a throwback to the Urban Intelligence sound, they still fit nicely on ‘Products Of The Environment’. Tracks like “Through The Years” and “We Don’t Need You Anymore” prove the visionary talent Luntic possessed years before Ireland would catch on.

DJ Moschop’s “Who Comes Iller” featuring Fly is certainly the most upbeat you’ll find by Street Literature, and it’s a real head-nodder. G.I.’s opening verse is effortless and unsurprisingly his beats match up to his wise-child style. His production steals the show on this mixtape and surely certifies him as one of the top-tier producers in Ireland today. Whether it’s the  electronic/synthesised sounds on “Rising Like A Footsoldier” & “Products Of The Environment” to the sample driven “Give Me A Reason” & “Working Class Warrior” the beats are premium and truly exciting to hear.

In terms of lyrical content, fans of Street Literature expecting the gritty portrayal of inner city life displayed on Boss TV earlier in the year, won’t be disappointed. Each member holds their own and the solo projects to follow are genuinely a thrilling prospect. Lunitic is a prophet with his story-telling, 4Real’s got a joyful aggression on track, Costello brings the philosophy and G.I. masters the musical flow. Throw in appearances from Lethal Dialect, Jambo & D’n’D on paper it’s hard to imagine how “Products Of The Environment” could fail?

Sadly however it lacks the completeness of 2011’s strongest contenders ‘LD50‘ and ‘12 Labours‘. Probably partly due to the process involved in putting this project together, but that’s comparing it with 2 (classic imo) albums and this betters most other CDs for sale in your local stops . Considering this isn’t a retail LP like Lethal or Sons albums, this free collection of tunes from Street Literature is the best bargain you’ll find all year online. It’s savage and you can download it on Craic Music, wouldn’t want you getting lost now, afterall the jungle is massive.

Track Listing
1. Products Of The Environment
2. Collateral Damage
3. Deep End featuring D n D
4. Music N Crime
5. The Question Is
6. Through The Years
7. Rising Like A Footsoldier
8. Who Comes Iller? featuring Fly
9. Wildlife
10. Flawless
11. We Don’t Need You Anymore
12 Gimme A Reason
13 Working Class Warrior featuring Lethal Dialect & Jambo

Terawrizt – Revisited LP (Free Download)

Posted in Irish Hip Hop Audio with tags , , , , , , , , , on January 7, 2011 by craicmusic

Terawrizt – Revisited
Executively Produced By Terawrizt.
All Beats By Tony Mahoney.
Download Here @ Terawrizt.com!

1. Life feat. Nu-Centz & Rawsoul (Cuts By Tigerfist)
2. Sound Of A Free Mind feat. Jambo
3. Uncivilised feat. Redzer & Nu-Centz
4. Let The Mic Go
5. Operation M.C.(Mind Control)
6. Grown Man Music feat. Nu-Centz
7. Highly Classified
8. Til I Reach The Top feat. Nu-Centz & Jambo
9. Wanders In Graveyards

Revisited is the new release from Terawrizt. The aptly titled download sees UK hip hop producer Tony Mahoney re-working a collection of cult favourite accapellas from Dublin’s illuminated emcee.
It’s a gritty affair dripping in dark emotion amid conspiracies and paranoid plots. Tera depicts a frightening but engrossing world over the course of 9 tracks.

On the chillingly atmospheric ‘Operation MC (Mind Control)’ we get bombarded with theories on social control and Jambo joins in venting frustration on ‘Sound Of A Free Mind’ with a nice nod to Shakey selling out on ‘Irish Party’. This isn’t a happy CD but we do hear a softer side on ‘Grown Man Music’ the soothing piano tones make for a suitably relaxed tune and ‘Life’ has a truly funky bassline with an outstanding verse from Meath man Rawsoul.
Fellow Class A’z members Nu-Centz & Redzer both have solid verses and Tony Mahoney does an excellent job with the beats. This is the first “must download” of 2011, earning the Craic Music seal of approval. Listen with your ears, open your eyes. Download now!
Revisited is a treat to fans, the new album ‘Silence Is Consent’ drops in early 2011. Expect all new verses from Terawrizt and more tightly crafted beats from Tony Mahoney.
